Trouble starting a 340

I have an International 340, which I am beginning to have trouble starting. To start it, I must place the throttle to the lowest engine speed without using the choke. Once the engine catches, I move the throttle to a higher speed and it will usually keep running. Any thought on what is going ON????

Souunds more like a fuel air problem like a loose intake manifold or loose carb connection either at bowl or manifold. Spray some ether or gas along the gasket joint with it running. Should hear a difference if it is loose.

Do some simple trouble shooting.
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the cap and at all 4 plug wires that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more
#2 pull the carb drain plug and then turn on the gas and make sure you have a good flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes. Catch the gas to look for water/ dirt etc.
#3 pull the air cleaner tube off and while trying to start it hold your hand over the air intake. You should both feel a good suction and get gas on your hand.

Thanks for your feed back. The tractor is at our hunting land and I will check things out if and when it stops raining.
