I Put the starter on thisevening.Useing the 400 starter. When engageing,it seems to be too far away from the ring gear. It just grinds, catches once in a while. Is a 400 flywheel a fuzz smaller than an M flywheel?Should I try to find an M flywheel?as I said before, the M flywheel was stolen so I was forced' to use the 400 flywheel.Would another starter work better? thanks,Steve

Looked on this site for starter drives. under M it lists a 12 tooth drive and another drive that under the separate 400 listing fits many applications as a 10 tooth starter drive. I looked because of partly remembering a former co-worker having a problem years ago. I will leave research to you or someone with more knowledge of IHC than me.

Like I said in one of my first posts on the starter you were going to use the MD clutch housing starter location is a different distance from the crankshaft center line than a Stage 2 SM, SMTA, 400 and 450 gas or diesel. Starter bolt up pattern is the same otherwise. Bathtub frame W-6 or SW-6 or starter or starter nose works if I remember correct or change clutch housing.

The length inside measures OK.Both retracted and extended. I will go count the teeth. If 10 tooth,a 12 tooth drive may solve the problem.
