Old IHC White Color Code

Would anyone have the paint code for the very old IHC white paint code that would have been on a #9 mower from the late 40's? Trying to restore a #9 and would like to be period correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob

I don't know which IH white color was specified for your #9 mower might have been but some research through the archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society's McCormick Collection of Paint Committee Decisions might provide that information. A common and widely used IH white of around that era was 901 Harvester White which I have seen in several places as crossing to PPG 8665. It is a starker white then the later creamy white as seen on tractors and implements beginning around the early or mid-1960's. To my eyes the 901 Harvester White has a very slight green tint but that might just be to my eyes. Partially assembled implements or various components were generally painted by dipping in vats of paint at the IH production plants where they were produced from my research of the noted archives, Hal.

No it's not your eyes, i bought some new wheels for dual in the late 60's for my 806,and they also had that green tint to it,, in fact i still have them! I bought them from the tire dealer , not IHC !!

Since folks seem to have trouble getting into the IH Archives McCormick Collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society I looked up what they had available in the Paint Committee Decisions relative to your No. 9 mower. The information below is only noted for a unit not destined to be shipped to Argentina. This information is from the Paint Committee Decision No. 128 dated Sept. 26, 1940, which cancels an earlier release by them on June 21, 1940. You will probably have your hands full trying to obtain exact matches to the colors noted by the committee as they are given by name only without any additional IH number or identification source.

This Decision No. 128 state this McCormick Works product will be painted as follows:

Harvester Red - Frame and all parts Except wheels, pole, neckyoke, grass board, grass stick, cutter bar, seat spring, eveners, pitman and pawl holders.
Harvester Indian Red - Eveners.
Harvester Blue - Seat spring and pawl holders.
Harvester Cream - Wheels.
Harvester Ocher (look this one up in a dictionary) - Pole, neckyoke, grass board and grass stick.
Natural Wood Varnish - Pitman.
Blue Lacquer - Cutter Bar.
The Decision further states - It is agreed that the frame and other parts painted in Harvester Red will receive one coat only.

Sorry for the additional colors which are going to add confusion as to the proper period correct colors used on your No. 9 mower but restoring implements are much more difficult then tractors in the correct finishes used when they were originally produced. When I restored my 1958 Farmall 240 tractor and the No. 11 Side Delivery Rake the Paint Committee Decisions on both called for the 901 Harvester White and 602 Harvester Blue which I was able to match. It also called out 201 Harvester Red which I wasn't able to match so used the current IH 2150 Red for those parts. Hope this helps and getting used to the archives is really not that difficult to use but does take some time learning how to maneuver through the various sections that are available to access on-line, Hal.

My No. 4 Tractor Plow also used the IHC Cream paint. When I restored it last summer I was able to uncover some original paint. After searching archives here and on the Red Power Forum I matched it up with Case Desert Sunset from Tisco. It was a dead ringer in my opinion.

I agree with Farmallhal about that green tint thing.
I prefer using IH 935 on my plow wheels. It has no green tint, looks to be close to what I recall what was used many years ago, and is available at Case IH dealers. The color closely matches the "white" on the hoods of 560 tractors and others of a more modern era.

I would show you my plow, but I can't figure out how to ad a picture. Farmallhal, do you have a picture of my plow? Seems like I emailed it to you a few years ago. It is on this site somewhere, also.

LA in WI,
I do have the photo you emailed me a few years ago but I don't have a clue how to do the picture thing either. In addition, it is on my old
PC with Windows 7 and my new PC has Windows 10. I and others have not figured out how to transfer Windows 7 folders to Windows 10 either so
there it sits on an old PC I can view but don't know how to share or move to my new PC. Remember I am from the slide rule generation and
wall mounted hand crank wood 12 party line telephone era and getting by without a smart phone as well, Hal.
