Cub to long to crank

I have done a complete tune up on my cub that I just purchase and the engine has to spin about 10 rounds before it pop off. Engine is timed to mark on crank pulley. .. My friend cub he just has to bump the starter and it starts right up. Only difference is mine is still 6 volt and his has been converted to 12 Volt.

Well, his 12 Volt Cub probably makes as many crankshaft revolutions in a second or three as yours does in 10 seconds (to draw in gas from the carb), and MAY have a "hotter" spark, as well.

6 or 12 should make little to no difference in starting. Something somewhere is slightly out of 'whack'.And,some engines just take a bit more to start.Especially a newly rebuilt engine that s tight.

A number of things can make all the difference in the world of how an engine starts. Compression, how well the carb is working, spark, and timing. If all is as it should be an engine will start easy. But if compression is low or timing off just a tad bit or the carb is not just right or even a vacuum leak or air filter problem can all come into paly as to how easy one does or does not start

I will add that 0 gauge battery cables can make a huge difference. How are you using the choke? Is the choke butterfly closing all the way? Spark plug condition can also make a difference. Are both battery ignition, or is one/both a mag ignition? Jim

Just wanted to add that the choke butterfly blade has to be working to get overfueling for a reliable start.

Also, retarded base timing will make an easier start but cost in power.

Our Farmall C can sit in the shed for a month and sometimes I can pull up on the hand crank just once or twice and it's running, without choking it. Then as soon as it starts you have to give it half choke for a minute. I always shut off the gas so it's not flooding, it's just amazing it's so ready to start. It has electric start but I like to crank it!
