Just acquired a 1967 Farmall 706 German diesel tractor that is in pretty good shape, 4500 hours. The tractor sat for 20 years. New batteries installed, and oil/filter changed. Starts and runs good other than some exhaust slobbering. The main problem is it will not shut-off. Pulling the Tee handle slows the idle to a very low RPM, but will not kill the engine. The cable is properly adjusted and pulls the bottom lever on the Bosch rotary pump just fine. This lever moves from it's full forward (Run) position to a vertical position, and rearward to the (Start) position. The fuel should be shut off and thus kill the engine in the vertical position, but it does not. The lever is properly attached and appears to be working fine as viewed from the outside, so the problem must be internal. Fuel is bypassing the shut off inside the pump. What do you think? Bad seals that can be replaced easily or is this a rebuild by an injector shop? Thanks
 
The bottom lever is full forward to run, pulled back to just touching the spring loaded plunger to start, and must compress the plunger to stop IF the stops are set correctly AND lever is on right. It has fine splines on the shaft, and needs set to the correct position on the test bench. Bosch VA AR, BR, and CR pumps are all hydraulically governed. Bosch VE mechanical governed pump is the VA replacement, IF you can find one if needed. Few parts available for the VA pumps anymore, no mater what series.
 
Problem Solved.. The above described lever does Not shut off the fuel in the vertical position as I wrongly presumed. It must be pulled rearward beyond the (Start) position and compress the small plunger entirely to achieve the shut-off position. The small plunger was stuck from setting 20 years and would not allow this to happen. Silicone did the trick. Regards to all. Hope this is helpful to others.
