F-30 pistons

Im getting ready to start to re-assemble an f30 engine and notice inside the piston skirt its stamped DE-LUXE casting # 2874D. Just curious what exact pistons i have. Google was not any help.

I didnt pay attenion to if they extended above the block deck when i disasembled it being high alt pistons. I do recall it being quiet stout to crank before i dissambled it though. Any help from someone with an IH parts book would be appreciated.
 
you better handle those with care, according to my F-30 parts book those are 8000 ft high altitude pistons. Not so easy to come by these days.

Thanks for looking it up for me.

I called Rice Equipment this afternoon and he said the same thing. I dont normaly luck into things like that. Must have been the two penneys i found heads up the other day.

The tractor ought to pull pretty good with these pistons and we ground about 200 thousands off the head too. Compression should be stout. Going to be stiff to hand crank. Oh well.
 
I have an F-30 with 5000 ft pistons that a previous owner milled approx .225" off of the head and it runs pretty good, after you get the rings seated and work it awhile it
won't be that hard to crank, but right after you get it together with new rings and freshly honed cylinders, it will give you a good workout. You are going to have fun with
that tractor, it will be a good plow day tractor.

I thought about using a flat belt and another tractor to run the new engine for a bit before introducing spark and letting it fire. So that it would somewhat seat the rings and circulate oil really good throughout.

That is correct. The combustion chamber on these heads is over 1” deep and the valves only open roughly 3/8” i think. There is quiet a bit of room in there.
 
yeah, it's pretty thin ! I also had to shim the rocker pedestals up to be able to get the valves to close. It was used as a picker tractor and they must have been trying to squeeze as much HP as they could out of it.
