When I was trying to start my Super C it burped oil out of the air filter on top of the hood. What would cause this problem?

Basically what is happening is one or more intake valves are opening when the corresponding cylinder is under compression, causing the air to blow backwards through the intake and up out the air cleaner. It's an oil bath air cleaner, so oil comes out.

Is it an isolated incident, or does this happen frequently? If it's never happened before and the tractor is otherwise running fine now, then don't worry about it.

When it happens more than once in recent history, it's time to dig in further. Does the tractor have a history of starting hard? They should pop right off, and can easily be tuned to do so. If you are cranking and cranking to get it to start, something is wrong.

Water or condensation in the distributor cap can cause a cylinder to fire early and make it spin backwards. It hen blows air cleaner oil out the stack. Bad timing or cross wired can also cause the problem. Jim
