thanks jim,waited till sputtering occurred an coil was hot to touch....replaced an straightened right out..ran perfect....thanks...dewy
 
Been there done that. You are welcome. As internal insulation ages, the coils touch each other as they are layered. The effect is that the windings become shorter and shorter baking it a 5 volt coil, then a 4 volt coil etc. running on 6.8 volts. This causes them to heat like putting a 9 volt battery on a 6 volt bulb. As they heat, they start to electrically fail causing the sputtering. Jim
