Farmall A alternator belt size?

I hope this will save me a lot or trial and error. I removed a makeshift hydro pump that was in the loop with the 12vt alternator and ordered the bracket from Steiner for my Farmall A. Does anyone know the size of the belt from the alternator to the fan pulley? The manual says 24.250" but that is with the original generator.

Not all brackets made to mount alternators are made the same so hard to say for sure. I have an alternator on my BA which is half B and half A and I know if I told you the belt size it is not likely to be the same as what you will need. Just take a piece of rope and use it to measure and buy a belt that long simple as that

Don't know about your area, but around here some places will let you take several home and try them and just bring back the ones that don't work.
First, do as Old suggested. That should get you close. Then get several different ones in that range and go from there.

If it helps I put an alternator on my A this year after a generator. I used the belt listed for a Farmall 100 and it worked perfect.

I used an old belt. cut it and wrapped it around the pulleys.Then marked where the overlap was.Then measured for length.

I put a 6 volt alternator on my Farmall B and the company that I bought it from put a pulley on it that matched the same belt that was used with generator.

Dpends on the alt mount i use the original 26.5 belt thats used with the gen dont know where you got the 24.5 but thats too short been using the 26.5 for more yrs than i can count been buying selling repair and restore them

Thanks guys... I planned on doing the Delta Red technique. I read somewhere it was 24.250 in a manual I downloaded. I thought it seemed short. Tractor supply lets you buy them and then return the ones that don't work for a full refund.

GenBender----You win! I called Steiner and they said 24.250" (must have looked in the same manual I did)
I cut the belt and put the Alternator all the way in and it measured 27" with as much slack as I could take up. I will go exchange my 25" for a 27 from Tractor Supply being they come in 1" increments at that size and I have enough arch to work with. Thanks

I just go to auto shop and ask for the 2650 x 17/32 they always ask whats its for and I say never mind just get the belt and if they ask again I say 1947 Farmall B then they say we don't have belts for tractors and I tell them just get the belt
