I looked at a 350 utility and I could not find the TA handle- could this be? It did not have PS- is that right? The tin is straight- gas- hydraulic good-4300 hours- needs tlc --- what is fair?

thanks

A good many 300U and 350U tractors came without TA or power steering. The serial number (right side of tractor, to the rear of the distributor) indicates whether a TA was part of the original tractor: S indicates TA with independent PTO, R indicates TA with transmission-driven PTO. If neither is there, neither was the TA. (Think this is correct, but I'll double check and change it if I find anything incorrect). Power steering didn't have any suffix in the serial number. These tractors can steer very hard without power steering - make sure you drive it and are comfortable with the steering before you buy it. Keeping the steering well lubricated helps a great deal, of course.

Values on tractors are highly dependent upon location and condition. Saw somewhere that "average" for 300U/350U is roughly $2500, but I've never seen one that's any good for that price near here (Denver area). But maybe I haven't looked in the right places??? Around here these smaller tractors are about as expensive as the ones in the 60-80 Hp range since they're more useful around a smaller place than a "big" tractor. Probably the most important consideration is what's a tractor worth to you, and what other options do you have to this 350U.

Good luck whatever you decide.

If your 350 Utility has a TA, look to the rear of where the clutch cross shaft goes into the clutch housing approximately 12 inches. There should be another cross shaft for the TA clutch. If the TA is out the only way the tractor will move is with the TA in over. The handle could have been removed to keep someone from pulling the lever back and having the tractor stop.

We used to have 300 Utility with no TA and no power steering. TA, Live PTO, Power Steering, and Fast-Hitch were all options, not standard. I would suspect that this was true of the 350 also.
