anyone else notice this beast is about worthless unless it's on pavement or a road? all it does is get stuck, at times even with the duals. even pulling only a 3 or 4 bottom plow. a tractor this size and power should be able to whiz through the soil on a baby plow like that.
it has 20.8R 38 goodyear dynatorques, which we were told would not require the duals...the tires we had on before were 18.4 38 CoOps, which were even worse. (and about as old as the tractor itself)
our 656 with 18.4 34 firestone field&roads and no duals ever runs circles around it doing fieldwork, it only gets stuck in the wet spots, and not too often. we've wasted entire days trying to unstick the big one, as it takes a couple tractors, and usually railroad ties chained to its tires. so much for productivity.

any traction advice?

thanks
karl

We have a 1066 with 16.9-38 goodyears and duals. We use it to harvest suger beets with a john deere 4310 4 row harvester. Have no got it stuck yet . It also pushes the trucks out of the field when there stuck. We try not to go out in the field when it wet but some times you have to.

well, the stuff we try to till isn't mud until the tractor goes through it--this is nice soil. (she'll even turn your yard and driveway into goo in the springtime)
14psi, per the tire guy's recommendation. it's probably a combination of things, but i haven't gotten to actually plow or anything with it (though i've observed it many times) because things went bad in the mid-late 80s, so just when i was old enough to take over at age 18 in 98, the cows were gone...so i'm at a university wasting 23,000 a year, which just as well go into something useful like farming. :)
thanks for insight...wish the money could go into the farm and fixing the problems i'm askin about...

Get your self a good pair of long bar\long bar 23 degree fire stones, and you should have all the traction you need especially if they are filled with fluid.

Since that tractor won't go in the mud a'll be glad to take that lemon of your hands but you keep them darn GOODYEARS , I'll put some old stones on it and may be it will get throught this Ohio mud.

Right, mud is a little to wet the first 806's came out with 16.9 38 tires and they would handle 5-16 plow here in west Iowa 1256 handle 5-16 plow real easy with 18.4 38 and 3 weights behind 1000 lbs in front.

are the rear tires filled with calcium? do you have wheel weights on it? a buddy of mine has a 1256 the rear tires are loaded with calcium but they have firestone 23 degree tires on it (a really good tire)all of our magnums have these tires and also my 1466 i wouldn't buy anything else. just my 2 cents jeff

Just wondering, how much air pressure you running? High psi can easily lead to spin outs..

Tires, My 806 G. has 16.9x38's it's a 63' first year made I'm told, and it has the tack that does not tell the speed of the tractor, just R.P.M.'s BUT on a decal (origional)on the lower dash under the parking handle it has a chart of speeds with 18.4x34's. I always wondered about this because to change 34's to 38's you have to change not only tires and rims but wheels too,so I always figured someone changed everything. Am I correct in my thinking?
