Have a wish list question for the IH gurus, will the nine speed gear set from the M fit an early 560? I'd like to close up the fourth to fifth gear gap, and keep the TA while doing it. Any chance it could be done, or just wishful thinking? I don't mind some minor machine work if needed, and PTO is a non issue. Thanks in advance..

M transmission parts won't fit a 560. Even if you modified it to get the main and countershaft in with 9 speed parts you would need a shaft made with two sets of gears to fit in the T/A and into transmission. Guess someone with deep pockets could get the same type parts used for a M 9 speed made to fit 560 transmission parts. Shaft out of the T/A with gears to drive two constant mesh gears and teeth on it for planet gears would probably be the hardest to make.

Clock the engine 10% or put on bigger tires. Another choice would be to run it in TA reduction with it throttled to 10mph. You don't say what you wil be doing with it, so all is a guess. Jim

If you don't care about speeding up the lower gears, two sets of fourth speed gears could be in a 560 one faster than the other. Don't have time now to get numbers, but one of those sets and a ring and pinion from a Farmall 400 or 450 may come close to the speed you want and if not fast enough check out the W-400 or 450 R&P ratio with one of the 560 4th gears. Don't remember on a 560 standard but may be another option.
