1456 injection pump

I need to remove the pump. It is getting fuel into the crankcase.I know why,have done it before on the 1026.Can I do it without removeing theexaust manifold?Doesnt look like the lines will come off the back of the pump without removeing the injector lines,and to do that the manifold has to come off too.would be nice to just remove the pump and not the manifold too.

Yes, the manifold can stay on. I remove the line support bracket, separate the lines as needed. Sometimes the outer two or three lines removed at the injectors so they can me moved out of the way more. The three back side lines I push against the block for clearance after the bolts are out. Get the pump timing lines aligned before removing the pump, as that's a four roller spline drive pump unlike the two roller tang drive pumps. If the timing locating pin is missing in the pump hydraulic head the timing lines are the only thing to help get it back where it belongs. After pump is removed unbolt the front gear four bolt cover, remove the gear nut and washer, remove the three rear adapter bolts and pull shaft assembly straight out the back. Seals on that engine are in the adapter, NOT in the pump on that application. Pump MAY also need repair IF the retainer ring is failing, and bits are restricting the return outlet flow. That raises housing pressure, and can make the seals leak too. Anytime I repair one of the 361 or 407 pumps I insist on bringing the drive and reseal it too.
