First time for me to tear down a d282 it has least two cracked sleeves how much trouble is getting the old sleeves out and new ones in ? And how to I measure the standout of the sleeves to see of they are correct

Early D282 blocks used hand slip fit sleeves, late blocks changed to heavy press fit sleeves. Early sleeves have a wide top flange the head gasket seals on, late sleeves have a thin top flange, head gasket does not contact the sleeve but seals on the block only. The early 706 282 block I tore down awhile back most sleeves came up easily after the head was off, just turning the engine only.

Since you are a 'beginner',I would highly suggest you order a service manual from this site.You may have (plenty) of experience,but the manual will have tons of valuable info so you can do a 'proper' job.Procedures, torque specs,tolerances,hidden concerns,things to watch out for........ that must be addressed. At 40 bucks,the cheapest part of your new overhaul.

23727 is the engine serial number it's on a 560 if I read it right the engine is 1959 and tractor serial number is 1960 and it does have the 1 1/8 wrist pins fella had taken the pistons out with plans to just re ring it and put it back together when he became sick and unable to continue so we sit here with new rings already installed on the pistons with a gasket Set when we discover the cracked sleeves this is my first Desiel overhaul I've done all kinda of gass engines Thanks for the replies
