Went to my tractor supply store to get some Hytran to put into my 1955 Farmall 100. The technician said he recommended straight 30W motor oil as it is a bit thicker and there would be a less likelihood of leaks.

Straight engine oil is what was originally used in the belly pumps of H's and M's. That is where he is getting his information from.

By the time the Super A's, C's and Cubs came out, IH had developed Touch Control Fluid which was a dedicated hydraulic fluid with the additives. Touch Control Fluid is the great-great-grandfather of Hytran Ultraction, the current product.

If you read it again he got his information from a TSC employee who in most cases is hired right off the street and knows nothing about tractors and oils.

Use the hytran That is what it calls for, has different additives than 30 wt oil. I use the hytran in my '55 100.

He we wrong. Hytran is substantially different in additives. Thirty wt. will be very stiff in the winter, and if it leaks fix the leak. Jim

Only place 30w oil should be used on a 100 is the engine. HyTrans in hydraulics, gear oil in rear end.

My SuperH manual calls for 30wt nondetergent. Detergent oil supposedly foams. I've used hytran and 30wt and both work. Live in Florida so temperature not an issue.

Your Super H manual is SIXTY-THREE or SIXTY-FOUR years old. Hy-Tran didn't exist until 5-6 years after the SH manual was printed. Quoting an outdated manual makes absolutely NO SENSE.
