farmall 300 alternater not charging

rewired a couple of months ago with new alt. was charging but not at first..one day when running at high rpm it started charging....seemed like you had to get it started with high rpms,but once charging it would at low rpms to......recently it was not charging..took to auto store and tested ,had bad bearing....life time warranty got new one and put on but would not charge....took off and tested.....tested good ,,still not charging....i dont think my rpms are as high as it used to be...but thats a different issue...just thought about it.....whatcha think is goin on............thanks as always.....dewy
 
If it is a single wire one you might try a smaller pulley to get speed up more. If not a single wire then it is not exciting to charge then could be several things. Bad regulator ,not making connection at the switch to excite and or other connections.
 
A smaller drive pulley may work, I would use a 3 wire conventional Delco 10SI alternator. They charge instantly. and regulate well. One wire to the ignition with a light spliced into it. One short wire to the Output stud. Not complex. Jim
 
Common problem with the 1 wire alternators. Some even in the paper work that come with them says they need X number of RPM to start charging and some is higher then a tractor engine spins at. That is one of the 2 reasons I use the 3 wire type. The 3 wire is half as much as the 1 wire so that is the other reason I use the 3 wire
