1946 Farmall H carburetor leak after rebuild

I have a 1946 Farmall H and I recently rebuilt the carb-mainly for cosmetic reasons. When I started the engine for the first time since rebuild, it started right up how it leaked a fairly large amount from the drip (weep) hole on the bottom. I did have the choke on so I turned it off and the same thing happened however much less.

I have read various old posts where people had similar problems that were float related. I was able to confirm free movement of the float after rebuild and before installation however I don't know how to once its installed other than removing it again.

I didn't have any problems with the rebuild except the the main adjustment screw gasket is very tight which makes the screw very difficult to turn. Due to this I am not able to feel when the adjustment screw touches the seat so I can't accurately tell how far out the adjust meant screw is. It's clearly not too far in cause it runs ok. It may be too far out, would that cause a leak through the drip hole?

Please note- the picture is of the actual carb after rebuild. The the various screws were not adjusted in the picture. Also, there is a part of the bolt hole missing that holds the two halves together. The bolt seems to hold fine and has never been an issue in the past.

Either the float valve is not functioning correctly, or the float height is incorrect, or the float itself has a pinhole and is filling up with gasoline. Do what you want about that broken ear, but if it was mine, I would find another carburetor.

I ran a post on here a while back about my "H" Carb; did the same thing ; took it apart many times and check and reset float; didn't seem to help. My gas "appeared" to come from the bottom; after messing with it for months finally figured out the gas was seeping out the top fitting that screws into the carb where the gas line hooks up- running down the back side and dripping off the bottom. My mistake. This may not be your problem but be sure that fitting is tight. It will sit and drip while gas is turned on at tank. On the broken flange - if it is tight and holding- paint the screw red so you cant notice it! Good luck!

i just removed my carb and checked the float movement- everything seems to move properly. I did find one interesting thing. When I rebuild the carb, I did not replace the felt in the drip hole. I looked into the drip hole and I did not see any felt at all. I am guessing that the chemicals I used to clean the carb probably ate the felt. So am I correct in assuming this is the probable cause of my issue?

Also- which felt is supposed to go into the hole? My kid had two pieces of felt. One had a hole in the center like a donut and the other was a solid cylinder.

i have an h that had a constant leak problem. p/ower could not get it to stop. fiddled with it for quite a while, found 2 problems. first the flot sat a little crooked in the bowl chamber and would stick when trying to shut off. then the bowl gsket was a little too wide and stuck into the bowl just above the float. as the float would raise, it would catch on the gasket and stay open.
