SC starter drive

Sometimes the starter on one of my Super Cs will spin without engaging the drive. It is one of the flat spring type. What do you think, lube or just replace it ?

Thanks

Greg

Clean to bare metal, then Teflon (PTFE) spray. If no joy, replace it with the new style. Sometimes small cables or a bit of corrosion will slow the starter down and it won't snap out to engage. Jim

Hi Jim,

Now that I have the drive in my hand, when the gear spins back on the square thread it jams at the end of the thread. It looks like there is a little groove worn in to the end of the thread and something about that wear is causing it to jam. I'm guessing it is a goner.

It could be a snap ring groove and a washer that are missing. (just a guess) The new drives are better and have the drive through spiral splines, no big flat wound spring. Jim
