I'm in the process of restoring my Super C and I'm trying to replace the seals in the frontend. I have unbolted frontend from tractor and have taking the front post off of it to. There is a rectangle piece where the post mounts and a round piece above it. Do those seperate, and what is the best way to access seals. Thanks for any help

yes, they do seperate and be careful as not to break them as I did the first time I took mine apart.

If the Super C is the same as a Farmal B here is what you do. I have just done 3 B's. You need to take the 4 bolts off that hold the round assembly up to the front end. Make sure you drain the oil if there is any in there, probably won't be. The assembly should drop down and out. Once the assembly is out you need to take it apart. First, remove the long bolt that holds the whole assembly together (look for nut on bottom).Next is the tricky part - you need to press 2 bearings off in order to get to the big seal buried underneath. To do this you almost need a shop press, which is good to have. I got one for about $120. Be very careful how you press off the bearings so you don't break your round castings (like I did the first time). The top bearing I got underneath the steering gear to press off. The bottom bearing I get off by flipping the assembly upside down and pressing on the bottom casting as close to the center as possible. Good idea to maybe get new bearings along with the seal. To put the bearings back on I heat the bearings and freeze the shaft and they slip right on.

It's sure worth doing -- Good Luck.

I think the B is different. I have a C and took the whole front end apart. The way the gears and shafts are built, I don't think there is a seal on the shaft that goes to the wheel post. It's built and splined so that the oil level is below where the seal would be. I think there is just a bushing. Yes you are correct about the way to take it apart. Take that round plate loose on the bottom and the bolt in the center loose and the whole thing will slide apart. On my C, the only seal I replaced was the steering shaft seal. On the other hand, maybe I missed something and was just lucky. Nothing leaks.

I'm not sure about the C, but I was told they were the same as the B, but maybe they are different. Let me better explain the B. The seal is buried and is not visible until the whold assembly is taken apart. It is pressed into the hole on the bottom casting and seals around the main splined shaft. This is what holds the oil in the whole front casting.

One difference between the C and the B front end is that the steering shaft goes in on the left on the C and on the right on the B. I took my front end all the way apart to where I could check the bearing. As I said, did not see any seal, just a bushing around the center bolt. Anyway, I have no leaks. I'd like to see a parts book to see how the thing is put together.
