I don't want this to sound offensive.

My 140 does the same thing whenever the gas gets low. I don't mean that your tractor is out of gas. I mean that on my tractor the when the gas gets less than 1/2 full, that it starts to run bad. I guess this is a full pressure problem from the gravity feed system. Keep the tank as full as posible, this may help. A full tank will put more pressure on any trash in the line and will maybe push around it or push it on through.

this may sound stupid but is the gas turned on at the tank if it is take the line loose at the carb and check for fuel flow. trash in the tank can act like a shutoff.

Also check to see if gas is going thru the carb. Pull the plug on bowl. The needle valve sometimes sticks when it's been sitting awhile.

The gas is going to the carb, I haven't checked the carb itself. If it is the needle valve will I have to overhaul the carb?
Thanks guys Max

Make sure you are getting a good hot spark. Points tend to get resistive after a while and not provide a good solid contact, producing a weak spark, not hot enough to fire the engine. Try cleaning your points with a point file or some VERY fine sandpaper. Be sure to clean any grit you may leave around the points.

I found after sitting a bit, the electrical contacts ( low volt ) to the coil, and dist. and on/off switch tend to get a bit dirty, and it just won't run. Just cleaning them a bit and I'm back in business. Plan on replacing all the stakon connectors w/ stainless steel aircraft connectors when we get warm weather. I was told to never clean points w/ sand paper. Theory is small bits of abrasive (aluminun oxide etc. ) will embed themselves in the points and promote burning of the points. Might just be a lot of canal water, but I always use a point file.

Ok, now I'm running again! Electrical seems ok, took advice and had carburator boiled out then rebuilt. Tractor started good and drove it one mile. Died. Started again and drove it 3 miles more. Still leaking gas in bottom of carburator. Haven't figured that one out yet. I'm pushing snow with it now. Thanks, Max
