I just bought an IH Little Genius (I believe) and it needs some new parts. For one, it needs new tires so I took it to a tire shop today. Was told there is too much rust on the rims and that they'd need to be worked on. With that said, does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to either get the rims fixed economically, or any where I can find some steel wheels to use on it. Also does anyone know what kind of plow this is. Thanks.

I bet those wheels are just fine. The wheels on my JD #44 were pitted badly inside. I had them blasted then used high build primer. Built up a few coats then sanded everything down. Repeated until it was a pretty smooth surface. It doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to good enough not to hang up the tube. I just top coated with some rustolium black paint.

The wheels/tires are going to be really forgiving on plows. They're never going fast and there's never going to be a load other then the friction of the lift wheel.

K

Did the plow come with coulters? They are not absolutely mandatory, but will make your plowing look better.

I suggest you contact Binder's Books and get an operator's manual as that will make for a good learning experience on how to adjust and set up a plow. Plows like that are fun!

Little Genius #8. If you're anywhere near Muncy, PA, Fry's Machinery has a pile of them bigger than my house. Any part you want.

I agree with Jim. Wire brush and give them a good coat. If they have enough meat left you could try a needle scaler but probably not necessary. Just so nothing sharp rubs on the tube.

Rotary wire brush. Spray with a light coat of bed liner spray. And have the tires mounted with tubes. Remember to tell the store they are not road tires, but ag. Also be willing to sign a waiver of liability. Jim

What is the purpose of the bed liner? Thanks.

The guy was concerned about the area around the valve stem in the third picture, he said something about the tube pushing through or something???? I'm not exactly sure. I assume you are suggesting the use of the bed line on the inside of the rims, under the tire? Where do you usually go to get tires? Do you just use car tires? Thanks

A light repeated spray of bed liner (after the wire brushing) will seal the surface of the inside of the rim. Don't try to build up a thick deposit on the bead seat area, just 3 light coats there. The hole can be welded closed and re drilled in a new spot. The tire selected should be a real snow tire (not all season) used is fine if it has deep tread. Light truck is usually stout enough. Jim

Read something, recently, about a guy using that sealer stuff, that you see on TV, to fill the pits. The stuff where a guy makes a row boat, out of a screen door. Might work. They have tubes in them, anyway.

Hello Plowman,

I am looking for a bearing or a whole steel wheel for a little genius plow.
It is for the furrow wheel, do you have one for sale.

Thanks in advance,
