Glow plug resistor indicator

I'm trying to round up the parts to get my glow plugs working again on my B275. There are two types of indicator that I've seen in my searches. My tractor has the one with the coils of wire. The newer style has the same face but looks quite a bit different underneath. Are these two interchangeable? The newer style is readily available but the older style only shows up in one place and they are out of stock there.
Thanks.

If you want to really do a upgrade toss both of the resistors and your old glow plugs out the window and get yourself a set of Bosch pencil type glow plugs. They are designed to be wired 12 volt and you will not believe what an improvement they are. Screw right in with no mods needed except wiring them so each one gets 12 volts.

The Bosch resistor/indicator like in the photo is what they came with. I have no idea what else you have been looking at. The original system uses four plugs that run at 9/10th of a volt each plus that indicator, all wired in series and all with the same resistance. If you put in the wrong indicator, you can burn some plugs out.

If you change over to the 12 volt plugs hooked in parallel, you have to use a 12 volt light-bulb for an indicator, IF you want one. Bosch came out with the new plugs to upgrade the 190D Mercedes car, but also fit the BD144 engine in the B275.

I appreciate the responses. Thanks.
My B275 still has the original 6 volt setup. I got some money to throw at the tractor but converting to 12 volts isn't in the works right now.

Hi Bob, I believe all B-275s were 12v by using two 6v batteries in series. The reason being was that large cranking amps 12v batteries were not readily available back in the late 1950s so two 6v batteries were used in series to achieve the required cranking amps.

I'm still learning about this tractor.
I just looked at a picture that shows the batteries and I do believe you're right. They are hooked up in series and not parallel. Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed. The info site I looked up said "6 volts" and I let it go at that not noticing the battery hook-up.
I really need the manuals for this tractor I guess.
Maybe when I hit the lottery...

I know this post is old but I'm looking for the same kind of resistor.
I just restored a 1959 b275 , my old neighbor insists on me finding one & claims the old school ones don't burn out. The only once I can find are the modern ones and before I rebuilt my b275 I have burned out quite a few. I did find some on eBay that were part of a dash assembly. Wondering what made the old ones so special? And why they would get rid of that design and go to the modern ones which don't last that long? Is it possible to find the old school ones? Besides what I found on eBay attached to a dashboard? No telling if they even work.

Just in case you are relying on an email notification I am adding this here. You got another reply but I think it was posted in Classic by Jimb2 an has broke off in a separate reply here in Modern because of the reply to an old post. This 2 view baloney should go away soon when the new software is implemented. If you need a complete wiring diagram for your tractor let me know I can provide you one.
