Get ready for it...

$65 for two bolts.

I have been having a terrible time keeping the clamps tight on one rear wheel on the 886. Finally found that one of the bolts (studs, really) was broken off. The remaining piece was only tightening by three threads. It backed out pretty quick.

I pulled the bolt and clamp and went to Fastenol. No such luck. 7/8, 5 inches long, and find threads. So I went to Case IH. The had some on the shelf. I got two (that's what I always do when I have to get a small part and then I have a backup). I could have died when he said $65 even. Huh? For two bolts? It's getting to be rediculous. I've had a $2500 parts bill at Deere the last two months. I'm ready for things to stop breaking at any point.

That isn't bad.
Try $52.00 for a little wedge bolt that fits most IH Cultivator Clamp Cuffs. They are the only place that has them....unless you want Chinese aftermarket junk. That is something that definitely needs to be made aftermarket in the USA!!
Oh yeah..... I got a quote for $90 for a pushrod (a single pushrod) for a Farmall 140 tractor with a C-123 engine. That ought to make my good used ones worth $20 a peice. ha

Well if you are talking about the wheel to clamp bolt/stud the one with the nut already on the stud that is suppose to be in the axle clamp you got off cheap . If you are just using a bolt that is NOT what is suppose to be in the clamp. . Now if this has been and ongoing problem then you had better look at the keyway of the wheel as it is more then likely shot . Axle clamp studs on the old style wheels were a problem from the 06 on up till they went to the wedge loc . The use of clamp on duals will plum eat them studs if the rim is placed out away from the center of the wheel and made worse if one runs the tire pressure on the duals at the same pressure as the tire on the tractor. The year the 1066 went down on us we had to put my 806 on as tillage tractor and since all tillage tools were geared to the 1066 we needed duals , i tried to ell my buddy that this is not going to work well with clamp ons and if we were to put duals on they should be axle mount . Well i found a set of axle mounts but he did not want to take the time to go after them and we would just borrow a set off the neighbor and the vary first thing he did when he mounted them on the tractor was to pump them up , tried to tell him to leave them at 10 psi but no . So the only way he learns is when he learns from getting into his check book . One evening i came home and he wanted to work more ground about and hour later i get a call and he tells me that the 806 is setting in the field with a broken axle clamp bolt , he had run the outside dual up on a bank and he heard a loud bang and the wheel started to wobble and that one of the clamp studs / bolt had broken . Yep told ya so , he said that he would pick up ONE on his way home . Nope you get four not just one , why only one broke , yep but the one next to it is either broken half thru or bent and will break and the other two on the back side are bent and they will break soon. . I'll see you out in the field . Yea that was fun first the dual had to come off then get the clamp off and like i said the other one next to the broken one broke off just as soon as we went to remove it to get the clamp out to get the broken one out . We had to use a torch and cut the rest out and i showed him that the the other two on the back side were indeed cracked . The correct clamp stud/ Bolt is a LOT more then 65 for two And you know that they are a problem when your local dealer had a dozen on hand . The person that he borrowed the duals from even keeps four on hand as he told my buddy that oh yea i break a couple each year .

I remember about 10 years ago when I was in the army hearing that a much shorter bolt than your describing costing the tax payers $35 each. It blew my mind when the contractor told me.

Would you have liked it better if the parts guy at the CaseIH dealer said, "We ain't got nuthin' for no 40-year-old piece of junk. Get a new tractor ya loser!"

Smart to buy several when you finally find them. the day will come when you won't be able to find them, then where will you be?

Are you greasing the wedges when you put it together or just dry? Need to be wire brushed real good and oiled or greased to get tight.

I would think Fastenal could of ordered it for you, but I suppose you needed it right away. I used to order a lot of special fasteners from Fastenal.
