Farmall H Belly Pump and Tranny Bearings

Hi Everyone,

I'm finally attacking the belly pump on my '49 H. Got it apart and the 2 needle bearings look like they could be replaced for the rotating shaft gear. The other gear spins freely around a semi-fixed shaft via a bronze bushing. That bushing can not be ordered anymore, so I found one at a bearing supply house, but it does not have the oil grooves cut into it. Now in the parts book, it lists 2 needle bearings could be used in place of that bushing. So I could try those or add the expense of machining 2 oil grooves into the bushing.

[b:9469362627]I was wondering if anyone has ever used 2 bearings in place of the bushing and if it worked out okay?

Also, I am changing the seals on the tranny side of the countershaft and the main input shaft. There is a slight play in the countershaft ball bearing, so I would like to replace it, but I am a little perplexed as to how that bearing can be removed.

[b:9469362627]Has anyone ever replaced the countershaft ball bearing?[/b:9469362627] It seems like the inner race is fitting snug around the shaft and there is no way to get behind it without pulling the tranny cover.

Thanks much,
Harry

I have replaced all bushings with needle brg. like you said busning not aviable any more. make sure you get controle arm connected when putting pump back together.

My dad and I just rebuilt our H's belly pump using the standard bushings. They were available in stock at our local Motion Industries. I'd look around on the web
and try to find the bushings, they aren't expensive and don't require extra work to install them. I'd check this link out first

Did you have to use a press to push the old bushing out and install the new or could you tap them out with a socket and install them by tapping them in??

Thanks much,
Harry

The bushings in our pump were cracked,
we were able pull them out by hand. We
pressed the new ones in with a piece of
wood and a dead blow hammer.

I had to press that gear bushing out. Took quite a bit of pressure till it popped. New needle bearings went in much easier with a socket and a tapper. Case bearings went well too without the press.
