My dad and I just got my Grandfather's Super C and I am not sure if the tractor was having this problem before or not. The tractor has a new battery, the starter checked out OK, and the generator has just been reworked. Yet the tractor still will barely turn over when the starter is pulled. At times it even stops for a second as if the battery is dead. Yet it fires up well even at these low revolutions when I increase the throttle. If the battery is dying would it continue to run after being started? The Amp meter reads 0, but I am not sure if it works. What else should be checked? Is it possible that I bought a brand new bad battery? Any ideas will be appreciated. Has this happened to any of y'all? Thank You --

Are you sure the battery is being recharged? You may be starting the tractor on charge the new battery has built up since the last time the tractor was operated. In other words, the ignition is using the battery power to run each time you use the tractor and the generator is not charging hence not recharging the battery. Next time you start the tractor and while it's running lift off the hot battery lead and see if the tractor conitues to run. If it don't, your generator is not putting out any voltage.

I agree with the previous posts but, if the problem still exists, then I would check the starter switch. Some times the terminals are corroded , just worn out or they have gotten twisted inside so that you can't get a good straight connection made any longer.

Is it 6 volt? If it is, be sure you have good, heavy, battery cable and clean, tight connections all around. I like #1 or larger cable on 6 volt systems. Any problems in this area could cause the symptoms you describe. Make sure your new battery is fully charged too.

Did you replace the battery cables? They can go bad from the inside out. Replace them with zero- or one-gauge battery cables. Make sure all of your electrical connections(battery posts, starter post, and ground bolt) are clean and shiny, too. Cleaning all of the electrical connections can make a BIG difference.
