I went out to start the tractor today and found this. Not one of my happier moments for sure. I don't know how long it could have been like that and I didn't notice, but I know I was able to use the hand crank in the fall so it must have been okay then. I didn't notice it till I was coiling up the cord from the coolant heater but then it was pretty obvious. When I got this tractor one of the frame rails had been broken and welded, so perhaps the casting was cracked or weakened at some point and then finally finished breaking loose. At any rate I will need to replace it. I have a few H front bolsters but they are buried in the snow. I am wondering if anyone knows if an H bolster would fit. I know it would not be correct since it would not have the mounting holes in the front corners, but this is a work tractor and I don't need those holes for what I do with it. If no one knows I will dig out one of the H bolsters and bring it in to compare and see if the measurements are the same. I know I put the worm shaft off an H on the 300 when I got it in 2012, but of course there are a lot of other things that have to match besides just that. Thank you very much for any advice. Zach

looks like a foot slipped off the clutch in 4th gear. luckily it didn't break all the way off and at least you have parts on hand to fix it.

Use grad 8 screws and no lock washers, that way it will stay togeather.

Judging by the rust already present at the break I would say this one has been cracked / broken for quite a while. If you decide to go with a 300 bolster I am sure there are many available, but..... .I am also sure the ones you have on hand will be a bit cheaper and much "handier", hopefully one you have has a y or z code.

It would be nice to see more pictures if you do not mind. 300's were good tractors in my opinion.

Sure, do you want more pictures of the broken bolster or of the whole tractor? I can get either one.

Like some said the H bolster will work. If a hand crank is wanted the 300 part needs put in the H bolster. Bolsters have the same dimensions, frame rails are just longer on the 300.

Thank you, that is great to know. I found 4 bolsters in the snowbank that has slid off the roof and I got two of them dug out. The others are sitting right side up and seem to be frozen to the pallets they are sitting on. Each of two I got out has a couple of broken bolts in the frame rail bolt holes so I will have to try to get those out and then I will be able to get to work on the tractor. The bad part is that the snowbank was about 4 feet high but the good part is that in a normal winter at this time it would be right up to the eave of the roof, so it could be a lot worse.

The three rail to bolster bolts are already loose and ready to remove. The issue might be sheet metal and rad fitment, but I would give it a try. Jim

That makes sense, I will give it a try and post back with the results in a day or two.

A few months ago I put a 300 bolster on an H so I know the frame holes will line up. The other thing is that the coupler that goes onto the crankshaft pin for crank starting was longer on the 300 bolster.

Thank you very much. I will get an H bolster with a working crank mechanism and see if I can get it to work. It's great to know that you were able to put the 300 bolster on the H.
