Bought a clutch and brake cross shaft from the Bay since it was cheaper than I could have mine machined. ordered part number 357046R1 for Late M through 450 disc brake tractors. It was the wrong shaft for 357046R1 even though that was on the sealed plastic cover. After checking found it matched a M with band brakes shaft. It came from A&I products. checked there site and in the technical information they have the shaft lengths switched on the M shaft and SM shaft. Length on the SM shaft is really the length of a M band brake shaft. Also they have a extra number on the M shaft. 650079D instead of 50079D. So for anyone getting a shaft make sure on keyways and length.
Since I have to pay shipping back I elected to change keyway and length of the one received. Wasn't happy about it though.
 

Should say this site shows the right length for a band brake M shaft and the right IH part number. Doesn't show a length on the SM shaft.
 
Fun isn't it? I went through the exact same thing a few years ago...think they would have gotten their part numbers corrected by now. I ended up keeping the first shaft I got in case I ever need it.
 
If you find an a and I dealer and buy it through them you won't havr to pay to ship it back. Im one and have had similar issues occasionally but they have always corrected it. Very rarely is my price more than ebay. They have a big mark up usually.
