Over on the garden tractor forum someone posted a money making scam - they claim with $6 you can get back $60,000. I once made $500 grow into $2500. I bought a 43 H for the $500 and $2500 later I had a niecely restored tractor. I didn't care if it was only worth $1500 if I tried to resell it (I didn't resell). Can anyone relate to this story?

If you start to keep track of money you may be inclined to start tracking time. As they say, time is money. If you track your time as money, you will quickly find your CASH money is a drop
in the bucket, hardly worth tracking at all! Yet, tracking time we all know is out of the question. The solution becomes obvious. Just treat the money as though it were time.

I did most of my work on my H back in the 80's when parts weren't as expensive as they are today.

I got a whole yard full of stories like that. My father used to say "better than spending your money at the gin mill". I restore cars for a living, and I tell customers that if they are counting the money, they are in the wrong hobby. If you buy a new winnibago and next year you decide to sell, you will likely not get what you put into it. Same with an antique car or tractor. We do it for fun, and for the satisfaction of making something something worn and ugly back into something usefull and beautiful. A great passtime, and we dont have to travel far to do it.

You said what I try telling others - it sure is satisfying listening to those old things run so good. The other question I have to always answer is "What do you need all those tractors for?" The question I fire back is "What do you need all those golf clubs for?" You can't even mow the grass with them!

There was 3 brothers in the next town who lived on the farm their father built. One collected farmall tractors, lots and lots of them, mostly F20, but some F30 and some A and H. His answer to the question of "what are you gonna do with all those tractors?" was always "What would I do without them???" He died last fall, and just before his brother died, he willed the farm to the local hysterical society, with a lease to the antique tractor club, and gave all the tractors and machinery to the club. Sure beats letting the state send the stuff to the scrap yard.

Where else can one take that kind of beating on money and still have a smile on their face. You have a great looking F-12.
