Does anyone know where I can buy a 12v conversion kit for my '49 H? I'm looking for something that would come with an existing harness, and be simple to install.

Thanks,

Neal Kingwood, Texas

check out the archives for bob m's drawing of 12v conversion. it will be the best money you spend on the h. sure it will crank on 6v but with 12v system it will CRANK and run better, easier to find replacement battery, easier to boost when weak, alternator will recharge battery quicker, in general just a better system.

Neal, look at Genesee Products under parts suppliers on this site, or check the article archives for 12 volt conversions and make up your own. Good luck.

no colder than it gets in TEXAS there is no reason to go to 12v get the right cables on a good battery and get a good starter save lots of money if you spen 1/2 the money it is going to cost to go to 12v your tractor will be ok how in the world do you think we farmed when these were new they started then and they will now

Yep, that's right. 6V systems just require a little more maintenance.
