4505 Massey Ferguson Excavator

I'm still looking for an excavator.
I noticed a 4505 Massey Ferguson Excavator for sale today. (I missed the 803 JCB)
It looks a bit rough, but for $8000, what is going to be perfect?
Are most of the parts still available for these?
Were they prone to problems? How much do they weigh?
Who actually made them? Any comments?
Thanks in advance!

It's a 450S not a 4505. Made from about late 1967
to 1978 by Massey Ferguson ICM (Industrial and
Construction Machinery) division at the Aprilia
plant in Italy but designed in Detroit. My former
neighbor has owned a few of them, a couple were
bought new in 69 and 70 for $29,000 and $30,000.
One of the first really advanced excavators. 6-354
Perkins, rated at 3/4yd and around 32,000lbs. Very
good machine in their day but almost impossible to
find parts for today. The hood over the engine
slides off for easy access. If it runs, it's a
good machine but I think $8000 is a little high
for something you can't get a lot of parts for.
Marlowe on here owned one so could provide more
info.

That would be about the last thing I would buy.
Wasn,t that much when it was new and no service parts today. Don,t know where you are located but have had the oportunity to buy 880 case ,35 drott or older 690 jd for that kind of money. Have a first cladd 690D LC JohnDeer 80% bottom cab with heat and air. nice 6,000 hr machine. Would be tickled to death to get 15 thousand..I can find you a better buy than the Massey for 8 grand.

i have one BUT you will NOT find any parts. when they were new they were years ahead of anything on the market bullet proof things like pumps and swing motors are no longer available and parts for repairs are also gone swing bearings are no more. track parts are the same as the MF-300 crawler and they are also gone. so take your 8000 and put it in to something that you have a chance to find parts for.but now days 8000 will not get you much with the price of scrape at 275 a ton most end up in China

do not know where you live but there are some still running in the Cranberry bogs around LACrosse Wi. they were sold by ST. JOSEPH'S EQ. they do have a parts machine but is really picked over there ph.is 608-788-1025

Thanks everyone!
I think I'll pass on this one.
I was concerned about the part availability, as I had only seen one other listed several months ago, and it just might have been this one!
