Hello,
i'd like to ask what is the smallest amount of money that excavator should cost?
i'm looking at used excavators and there is one Case CX330
Crawler excavators 2005, [b:1c25a3c122]44993 hours[/b:1c25a3c122], but price isn't given.
Was is the max amount of working hours for such machine in your opinion?

Brand, year model, physical condition, hours, etc are all factors in the price. The best answer anyone can give to your question is to simply look at the other machines on the site you give the link to, and also check out other equipment sites for the same equipment. That said there really is no way to give the cheapest price for a machine as every machine is only worth what someone will give, or take for it. In your case the machine your talking about, as well as others in that size range, seem to be starting in the $50,000 plus range and going to well over $100,000 depending on the specs I listed to start with.

As far as hours go that seems like ALOT of hours for a 2005 model machine. Doing the math, at 52 weeks in a year and a typical 40 hours a week that's 2080 hours per year for a standard work week. At 12 hours per day that would be 3120 hours per year. Taking that a step further and figuring from thre start of 2005 until now that's 6.5 years times either 2080 or 3120 which gives a total of 13,520 hours, or 20,280 hours. Going with the higher total of 20,280 and doubling it for a 24 hour day, 5 days a week, still only totals out to 40,560 hours, or more than 4000 hours less than the total you state.

In other words the machine your talking about must have been working in some kind of production environment where it was in operation just shy of 24/7 since being put to work on January first of 2005. Personally I'd RUN AWAY FROM THIS MACHINE AS FAST AS YOU CAN GO....unless you can buy it for less than scrap value and then scrap it and make some money. Otherwise all your looking at is a money pit of repairs waiting to happen.

Thought maybe he had made a typo too. Then I looked at the link and saw the add for the machine he was talking about. The add clearly states 44993 hours, so that's the info I went with when I gave my reply. Now 4993 isn't alot of hours and it could be a greart machine but even then he's looking at BIG bucks for a machine that size. None of my business really but typically someone looking for that large of a machine would be a contractor, etc as machines that size aren't easily transportable, are high cost, high maintenance, etc. As such, buyers looking for a machine this size typically would know exactly what they were looking for and at, and wouldn't be asking for advice like this. Regardless of any of that I just gave an informative answer based on the best available info. Just hope it helps the guy out.

It's probably 4499.3 hours. I agree though, that's a big machine(78,000lbs.)to be asking about value on on a forum. If it is indeed under 5000 hours and in good shape, it's probably worth in the neighborhood of $100,000 or more. I'm just guessing but I bet a new 330 excavator is in the $350,000+ range.
