Were all of these dozers made for the armed forces or were they sold to the civilian population also?

After several years research, I think the following is GENERALLY correct: UStrac, Warren Oh, started AFTER WWII by buying up stock of cancelled military parts from Clark Airborne crawlers due to war's end. They changed the design somewhat, primarily going from a Waukesha to a Continental F124 Industrial engine. The blade cylinders were reworked and the dozer cylinder mounting risers are somewhat different. I have parts lists showing cross refs. from Clark to USTrac p/n's and their first sales brochure showing a Clark "mocked up" to be a USTrac for photo purposes. They made a straight blade (surplus LaPlante-Choate), and were to make an angle blade and a loader; I have seen one of each of the latter two.
USTrac was spun off from Federal Welding (Cleveland, Oh), who did contract work for Cletrac in the war, then later became American Tractor (Terratrac) (Churubusco, Il) and were in turn bought by Case and became the 300/310 series crawlers.
My USTrac is an early one, having many Clark surplus parts; I have also located it's next numbered one.
I note you have one for sale, would you post the first two digits of the s/n (atop trans/clutch housing) and if it is a four or five digit number? Thanks.

FRED, These were sold to the civilian population as well. I had one years ago with a dealers tag from New York mounted on the fender. Most of the civilian ones I have seen were originally an Allis Chalmers orange. I live close to where they were made.

Fred, They were made in Warren,Ohio. There should be a brass ID tag on top of the transmission stating this. The engine is a four cyl Continental. I do not remember the particular model, but I was told told that parts are still available for the engine. I also have been told that the engine is the same model as was used in a small size model of Massey Harris tractors. A Massey collector could help you on the specifics. These crawlers are very similar to the Clark Airborne crawlers made in Michigan during WWII. They are also similar to the American Tractor Co. crawler made in Cherubusco, Indiana.

USTrac was model 10B (no data on A?). Don't think they were used by military. Clarks were surplused after the war. IIRC National Geographic Magazine (1949?) had story/pictures on building Dew/Pinetree/Mid-Canada radar picket lines in which Clarks/USTracs were used to pull material sleds from LSTs to building sites.
