IH 500c Loader

Hi all,
I have a 500c that is on the bubble, ok at the moment it has burst my bubble so I thought I would see if there is enough interest in parts to justify parting it out or not.

The little D155 runs like a watch and may be the only thing on it that isn't leaking oil. Last week I had to use some pipe and lots of epoxy to patch up the hose connections for the lower radiator hose and bypass hose as I couldn't quickly find a water inlet cover and mine was corroded pretty bad. Other than that the engine is fine.

The torque converter drive system has always worked great for me, I have had it about 8 years and no issues there.

As for the rest, If it can leak it does, the left steering clutch is stuck and the right one is slipping (great if you just want to go in circles I guess). The hydraulic lines are pretty sad except for what I have replaced and it just blew another for the bucket (thus my aggravation at the moment) and I have a Davis backhoe welded to the back of it and it too needs all new hydraulic lines.

The left track wheel has been replaced with one from another machine and that track has a cracked link, but I have 2 extra tracks so no biggie other than the work of doing it.

And none of the electrical is even hooked up except for the starter, hey that's how it was when I got it. LoL

Fact is I have about $5k in this thing, and being unemployed and just doing odd jobs for the last 10 years hasn't given me the ability to go though and fix it's problems as I had hoped. With a fair bit of work and probably about $1k in parts and hoses it could be a real get-er-done machine. I just don't have the time or financial resources to do it.

Anyway, I thought it might be worth a shot to see what kind of interest there may be in parts or maybe someone will want the whole ugly thing.

Doc the most important thing is location. Don't have to be a street address just a general area. Next is are you able to take it down and get the parts shipped in a reasonable time frame?

Rick

Hi Rick
Your absolutely right, I'm just having one of those senior moments I guess. LoL

I'm located just south of the little burg of Luling Texas and the zip is 78648 if anyone wants to look that up.

As for getting it apart and shipped, so long as the weather cooperates getting it apart wouldn't be an issue and so long as it can be put in a box or chained to a pallet the only shipping issue is the logistics of finding a fair deal to get it wherever it may be going.

I have used Forward Air out of Austin quite a bit in the past for large stuff like engines and transmissions, they used to take them just strapped to a pallet but I don't know if that's the case now or not as I haven't been there in about 2 years.

Of course as I said before, at this point I am just seeing if there is enough interest to justify parting it out.

howdy neighbor...i live in Sheridan...go thru Luling when i go see my sis in Kyle...small world

Doc. I,ll get hung on here because this is a FIX IT IF IT IS OLD SITE, but that unit was margainal when they were new. If you keep puting money and work into what happens whe it d=shells a final drive or something major. You will have too much to quit and will end up with a lot more than the unit is worth in it. just my too cents worth but spending on these 30 year old units trying to make them workable is risky. If you want to fix it up to have that is one thing but to fix it to go work it everday sure takes a lot of money and will power..About the only parts we ever sold were steering clutch parts.
Don,t hink you wil get rich parting it out.

Probably not JM, and I agree with you completely.
I got this with the plan of getting some things done here and then turning it again, but so far I have spent many more hours working on it than using it and that's not much fun. If the right steering clutch hadn't failed it would have done what I need but now I am just frustrated with it.

Probably the best thing for me would be to trade it to someone who will love it for something else that I might could use. Or find another one for parts so I have enough to keep it going for years to come.

I"m curious, you say these were "marginal when new". I have one and it seems like a nice little workhorse. What"s marginal about them, and what machines of similar vintage and weight class are better and why? Just want to expand my knowledge.
