Cat D-8 Logging - New Zealand

These photos were taken by my grandfather in the late 1960's. The D-8 is logging in the Otaki Forks area of the Tararua Ranges, North Island, New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing those great pictures.
Two questons:
What kind of trees are those?
How are they loading them on the truck? Is the Cat in the foreground pulling them up over the log?

I am not sure what the trees are most likely it is Rimu (a native New Zealand timber).
Loading is by way of the log across the cutting with a wire rope over it and back to the Cat. Lift it up, back the truck in and lower down....
Amazing what you can do with a bit of wire and lateral thinking!
