More #@%#@ fixing!

I should have stayed in bed today. First the starter rope on my pump broke and when I took the starter off to see if I could fix it, the spring came uncoiled. I'll have to take it to a small engine engine place to rewind it. That's not a big deal. My backhoe is another problem though. I was digging some clay with the hoe on the back of my 931B Cat and was almost finished when I noticed something was wrong. The top bushing that is welded to the backhoe frame for the side to side pivot ripped right out. The steel is about 1 inch thick and it looks like the break started at the grease fitting hole. I managed to drag it back to a dry area and even take it off the Cat. The bottom boom pivot looks about 1 1/2 inches thick and it bent down a bit as well. The circular welds around the bushing look like they just ripped right off like it was too hard a steel or something. I can probably weld it back together but it's going to be fun removing the hoe and swing motor from the quick attach frame so it can be repaired. Then I have to try and line everything back up to get it back together. What a Pain in the a$$. Ever heard of something like that breaking before? I wonder if the relief valve stuck or something. There was some frost but usually the hyds. just won't have the power and I don't have the bucket set for the most digging power anyway. Why don't they put the grease fitting through the pin? It's about a 2 inch pin. Dave

It's not the easiest fix and not even something you'd think would ever break. I have to take the whole backhoe and swing motor off to get at it and hope I can get everything lined back up to put it back together. I bet it could cost a couple grand or more if I paid to have it fixed. Dave
