Bought a thumb today

2x4 was bang on. Brand new manual thumb for 12 to 16,000lb. excavator $400 at Ritchie bros. auction. Of course there'a a 10% fee on top of that cause it's less than $2500 but I think the price was reasonable. I might have got one for $300 but didn't want to take a chance that a dealer or someone would buy them all. BTDT. I could have built one easily enough but it would take a lot of running around getting materials, figuring out the design, cutting the pieces and then building it. I think it will work well for picking trees out of brush piles so I can spread the dirt back out. Dave

you are correct; any less than that & the owner would've bot'em back Or dealer taken all. Thats been the minimum price for 10 years at sales in 9 states I've been to.

Ritchie bros. has signs all over saying no buy backs but it appears that most of their sales have them. Looking on the net, I've seen the same thumb as low as $250 and as high as $1850. One dealer has one that is new but rusty for $1200! It appears that lots of them are sold at different auctions. I couldn't find out any information or where the thumbs are made etc. Dave
