Loader forks (for case 480B)

I need a set up pallet forks for our case 480B. I would really like something that can handle more than what the tractor is capable of lifting to prevent breaking the forks. From what i have found online so far is the tractor can lift around 3700 lbs. The only solution I have tracked down so far was the forks sold my northern tool though they are only rated at 2000lbs and I know I will not be lifting that much, One thing that caught my attention with thoughs is that they are universal so i can switch them between the backhoe and brush hog loader on our other tractor. Plus the price isnt bad 470 except its about 170 more to ship it. Another thing that suprises me is its made here in the US. I'm just looking for some other ideas. If anyone knows where I can get drawings I can make my own (which i have though about just copying theirs). Another nice feature is that you can also use it with a 3pt hitch to move things around also.

Just a thought- we used a set of bolt on forks right onto the bucket and they worked great. You could pick them up and throw them into the truck and they were quick to switch between tractors. The only real downside was you had to get used to where your tips were because you couldn't see them through the bucket. To be honest it really doesn't take long to get good with them. Personally I am not fond of the hanging type forks, because when you are loading and unloading things in a messy area, its easy to get the back of the fork hung up when you are backing up. Another nice thing about the bolt ons as opposed to the hanging type is that you can dump your bucket and use one of the forks as sort of a finger to finagle things. That can be real handy. ours have outlasted 3 backhoes and picked up way more than they were rated for.

I fabed a Bobcat unihead for my 3444 out of angle & chanel iron. I can use both the old style & new style attachments. The forks are rated 2 ton. It does not take long to switch to the big 3444 loader bucket. But I like being able to rent & use the other attachment.

You might want to give these folks a call and see if they have anything. Even if they don"t have something in stock I"m sure they could fabricate something for you. I"ve only dealt with them once but when I went to pick up the parts all of the guys I met seemed to be really good guys. Even better their price on the parts, complete, was less than I could have bought even one piece of the material for, much less all of the material and then my time to fab them up.

One problem is NC is a little far from tx. My uncle owns a metal fab shop, and they have a fork lift repair shop in house, so i'm thinking maybe they can come up with something. I was just thinking osmething prefabed would be easier. I have thought about the ones that go on the front of the bucket but I have heard they cant lift much and that you could bend up the bucket.

The biggest concern with bolt on forks is if your bucket is strong enough at the cutting edge. The last thing you need is a bent bucket. Industrial loader buckets are a lot heavier built than farm loader buckets. I've made some bolt on forks out of a boxed in 4" channel for lifting pallets of sod. It was on an MF30 ind. loader and they worked fine. Sometimes some of the pallet had to be taken off because it was too heavy but the bucket never bent. You lose a lot of capacity with the forks out so far and the weight of the bucket though. Dave

I ran a 580C with forks on the bucket for a couple of years. Dave is right, you loose a lot of lifting power with the forks being so far forward. The 580C wouldn't lift 2000 lbs with the forks. If you're going to lift anything heavy, you'd be better off with a set that replaces the bucket. If you can find a set of forklift forks in a scrap yard, you could make your own.
