One battery or two?

Looks like I need a new battery(s) for my skid steer. When I bought it, I got the optional dual batteries. Is one battery better than two? Both are 12 volt. I've heard some people say that one good battery is better than two but I've also heard two are supposed to give more capacity. Is it worth using two or a waste of money? It's a 43 HP Kubota engine. Thanks Dave

Either one large or two medium batteries. Depends on what will provide the greatest amount of CCA and fit in the battery box.

Agree with buickanddeer. You are only dealing with a 43hp engine, its not like the cranking current required for a 200hp 466 engine started. I always attach my ground cables to a bolt that holds the starter against the bell houseing for a current path of least resistance. Bob

A battery loses 1/2 it's power at zero degrees F. So, at zero, two batteries become the equivalent of one. All depends if you want a good cold starting machine, or not.

Don't get fooled by posted cold cranking amps either. Anybody can up the CCA on a battery by lowering the reserve capacity. You need both.

In general 2-- 12v batteries in parellel provide twice the ampere hours--and is used commonly in RV situations. 2--6v batteries in series give a better CCa and are comonly used to start engines
