Many 450s wind up at auction or in the scrapyard when that happens. When the HL-R gets well worn, it will have full pressure when cold, and low pressure once good and hot and will stop moving.

At that point, when still working cold, many get sent to auction and some poor buyer gets stuck with it.

You might get lucky, but often the problem is everyting hydraulic inside the trans is worn out and it can cost many thousands of dollars to fix.

Main thing and easist thing to check if the mechanical clutch linkage. The foot clutch is attached to the hydraulic pressure regulator on the HL-R trans and sometimes the adjuster comes loose. It's under a rubber plug in the floor near where your right foot sits. It's a 5/16" or 3/8" threaded rod with a nut and locknut on it. Takes a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench. If it comes loose, the HL-R loses its pressure.

I've always wondered what the consequences would be of putting a heavier oil in the transmissions/hydraulic systems of older worn equipment.
Somebody try it and let me know.
