Cat D2/D4 Pony motor (starting engine) governor

I bought a governor off a D2/D4 cat pony motor to use on something else. It's sealed, no oil line, no drain, and it's dry. Anyone know how much and what kind 'o lube to put in this thing?

To lubricate the gov. remove the retaining screws and pull the cap away from the pulley 1/2" keep the weights in a vertical position to keep the weight pins from falling out. Using an oil can put approximately 2 tablespoons of oil into the lower portion of the pulley.

Thanks for the reply, Tom. Do you know what weight? I don't put anything in the rear cavity?

For that early model governor the instructions are to put three of the four front cover screws in place then add oil through the remaining screw hole until it runs out the screw hole when the governor is in horizontal position and the hole is at it's lowest point. Original spec was 30wt oil same as engine.

I can handle that, but you don't put anything in the rear cavity? I'd think you should throw a little in there, anyway

There's really nothing back there except the lever. The shaft and bearing get lube from the front. A little assembly lube sure wouldn't hurt though and make sure the lever is moving freely.

Thanks. The owners of this here site won't allow me to post the details of this
