Cat D6 9U Info

I am going tomorrow to look @ a D6 9U tomorrow that has been working on a farm here in CA all it's life. Straight tractor no blade does have hydraulics.

I appreciate these threads and have learned a few things, anything other than the dry clutch I should be looking for?

The machine is reportedly in great shape with just 2 owners. Asking price $6500.

Is adding a blade out of the question?

At $6,500 it should be a decent unit with good undercarriage and oil clutch is a must for dozer operation. My first reaction would be to save your money and look for a dozer unit but the flip side of that is most of the dozers I've seen are worn out/shot so starting out with an ag unit makes some sense. Blade set ups are not that easy to find separately, especially the hydraulic hard nose versions.

Highly regarded model, I'd love to own one with an oil clutch and blade myself.

I can add that it being set up as a drawbar-agricultural type tractor, might want to check to see if it's got the smaller idlers on the front end of the track frames, these were usually installed for ag type work, easier turning, larger ones were for construction applications, I'm not sure if these had 2 postions to be set in, I think, but am not sure that is a possibility too.

You'll need to install trunions on the track frames, hydraulics meant for the hard nose type blade, you'll want what was available for these at the time as far as that goes, and you may have to search out salvage yards out of your locality, to obtain what you need, also beware that a blade/pusharms that you do find may be worn out too, so it might be a few thousand when said an done, just have to keep looking.

The thing with the dry clutch is the adjustments, friction material wear and you must keep that pilot bearing lubed, not as durable as an oil type clutch for heavy dozer typ useage, but for limited to moderate use, depends on the operators habits as to how long it lasts. When checking out the tractor, see how it engages, nice snap over action, no slipping under a load, also see if you can look at the friction material through an inspection cover. Price seems high for an ag tractor in CA, but not being from there, not fair to comment, sounds like a good one to start with, a lot better than rebuilding a wore out one with a blade on it.

Thanks for the reply . Turns out it does have a hydraulic clutch but no tractor hydraulics other than a small pto unit for operating a piston on attachments.

Thats probably a BeGe hydraulic unit on the back....pretty common for Ca. tractors.
The oil clutch is not a hydraulic clutch, just runs in circulated oil for cooling.
