Strange hydraulic hose leak?

I noticed oil dripping from where all the hoses come out by the swing post on my backhoe. I've replaced most of these hoses in the past because they rub on the dirt when digging deep. I put some of the kevlar? type hose protector sleeve over all the hoses so they wouldn't wear the rubber off the outside. One of the sleeves appears to be where the oil is coming from. A couple of the sleeves will slide and bunch up a bit but I check them and slide them back in place. Have you ever heard of a good hydraulic hose getting a small or pinhole leak? I don't think it's a big leak because everything still works. The sleeve could be holding a lot of oil back. It just a wierd leak and I'm wondering if I just got a bad hose or something. I think the hose is rated for 4000 PSI and I'm only running 2500 PSI. If the oil was pretty hot, could that cause a leak? I'm a little puzzled. Thanks Dave

Make sure all your fittings are tight and not leaking and running down the hose. If none of the fittings are leaking then you have a bad hose. Change it.

I've had several hoses on my NH skidloader develop pin hole leaks. Seems to be a common problem with certain brands of hose made in the late 90's. The early electric shift CIH Magnum tractors had lots of problems with pinholes in hoses.

Just to give an update on my leaking hose. I took the hose off and then took the sleeve off of it. There was about a 1 inch wide V where a piece of the outer rubber cover was missing and the steel wrap was showing. It wasn't frayed at all. It almost looked like the hose had had been bent really sharp. I don't know where the little piece of rubber went though. The hydraulics get pretty hot when using the hoe. Could the heat have caused the rubber on the hose to split? I've had other hoses wear the rubber off and still not leak. It wasn't a big leak as everything still worked but still I'm glad I got it fixed. It was a Dayco/Eastman 2 wire 4000 PSI hose. I did do something right when I changed it the last time, I changed the Cat reusable elbows for standard elbows so I could change hoses easier and not have to find a place with a Cat hose press. $8.00 or so for the hose and $16.00 for the 2 JIC fittings. Wasn't hard to change either. Maybe my luck is getting better? Knock on wood. Dave
