My 955L pumps(I think)the oil from the transmission into the steering clutch resevior overfilling it and emptying the transmission. Can someone help me with where to start looking? How can this happen?

Tanner you may get away with just cleaning the steering suction screen. The seal in the back of the trans pump is facing the steering pump and if the screen gets clogged it can easily draw oil through it into the steering. The screen is under a plate with ontop of the steering clutch case beside the suction line for the steering pump. You will need to change the oil as AJ said and watch the screen in future. They usually clog up with worn brake band material and it will come out looking like a pumpkin.

You usually get this problem when the seal on the input shaft of the steering booster pump fails, the steering pump is mounted on the front of the torque convertor housing,it is the pump with two external pipes attached to it,if the seal fails it sucks in oil from the transmissiom rather than from the back end,you will need to replace or repair the pump, drain the oil, clean the suction screen and fit a new filter.
Good Luck

Thank you for responding. That seems logical and a good place to start.

I would look at the pump area also. If the problem does not go away there is another spot that would also cause the problem. That is the seal on the pinion shaft. I have had them leak and they only seem to transfer oil when the machine is running. In order to fix this you have to pull the transmission. This will get you to the seal area. Hopefully the pump is the answer. Any other questions I will try to help.

Thanks for your info. Been told by local mechanic that bearings go before seal leaks. Seems like several possibiliies. Never seems to be the least expensive for me. Price of owning equipment, I guess. Again, thank you for responding.
