We're trying to pull an engine and have never done it before on a 955 h caterpillar 1967 model. Don't know where we can find a manual. Any suggestions.

You also can remove the engine this way, secure the bucket up like Bob said, remove the front and back belly pans, drain the oil and water, take out the two bolts in front of the sprocket holding the track frame to the loader frame on each side, take out the bolts holding the loader frame to the cross beam either side, jack the front of the tractor up, (the tracks should stay on the ground) about four inches or until the bottom of the bellhousing will clear the cross beam, take off the fan guard and remove the rad and housing, undo the bolts holding the tranny cooling pipes and push them down out of the cooler, disconnect all wiring and fuel lines, throttle control, take off the fan to save it getting damaged, take off the air cleaner assembly, take out the row of bolts around the bellhousing and the front engine mounting bolts, there are two tapped holes in the cylinder head so you can screw in two lifting eyes, attach a spreader bar and just take the weight, pull the engine straight out without lifting it any higher till you clear the torque convertor. Good luck

Helen, look on Ebay, punch in Caterpillar and search. Lots of pages to go through. Anyway here is how to do it. Drain the rad and the engine oil. Get or make an angle iron support for the lift cyl, to hold the loader arms up. HEAVY angle iron, 3"X 3" 3/8" thick. It goes between the head of the cyl and the end of the rod at the lift arm. Remove the rad and guard in one piece. Unbolt the Hard bar from the track frames and lift it up 3" and put in blocks, you need room to move the flywheel housing forward. Then you need a lifting bar to hook to the front and rear of the engine at the cyl head and lift in the center. Take off all lines wires and linkages plus the air cleaner. Take out bolts around the flywheel housing and the front support to the frame. Lift slow and steady, pry with a bar first to make sure everything is loose and you don't break anything. Email if you like, click on name to get address.
Later Bob
