Hi guys long time reader new member and first post. We recently purchased this L325 and repowered it with a predator engine. It works great minus two things. I've ran quite a few skidloaders but this one is really jumpy while turning especially on pavement. I'm just wondering if that is normal beings it's such a light machine? Also I understand that the boom has no down pressure but reading the manual it seems it is not normal that the boom seems to be always in float. I'm just wondering is there an adjustment or something that could be sticking to make it float? And one last thing the hydraulics are super touchy kinda like all or nothing when lifting and lowering the boom. Once again just looking for some insight as to if this is normal. I purchased this machine from a farmer who purchased it new. It has been shedded it's whole life and is in pretty good condition, although I'm pretty sure the hydraulic filter under the seat had never been changed as is was super stuck and had yellow paint on it and the machine has never been repainted lol. Thanks guys.

I actually had to google your machine. Smallest New
Holland Ive been around was a 555. I work road
construction as an operator and run skid steer often.
Easiest way to turn on blacktop is to put your bucket
down and lift the front wheels. Obviously cant do that
with material in the bucket. That hopping isnt just your
machine. We have mostly New Hollands and a few Cats at
work and they all do that. Second question about down
pressure/ float. I have never been around a skid steer
that does not have down pressure. To me your saying the
boom just floats down like a 3 point hitch ? Does the
bucket have pressure both ways ? Having no down
pressure to me is weird and sounds like you may have an
issue. Like I said though I dont know your machine.
Please explain in more detail.

Yea so my machine only has one way cylinders on the boom but two way on the bucket so turning with the bucket down is a no go lol. Reading the operators manual it says to lower the boom to push the pedal forward and to float the boom you are supposed to push it a little further and the pedal will click. Mine does not click lve even lifted the boom a tad and then tried to tip the bucket and it will just lift the boom. Which the only time it's really a problem is if I'm back dragging something it will kinda bobble the front wheels as I back up and the boom bobbles up and down.

That to me is very strange like Ive said. I cant believe
New Holland put one way cylinders on a skid steer boom
no matter the model or year. But I guess they did cause
of what youre saying ! And Im guessing the boom
floated from the factory no matter what. The click thing
on the pedal is that for the bucket curl/dump Im
guessing by what youre saying ? If the boom already
floats why would you need the bucket to float also ? Im
still trying to wrap my head around a machine which does
not function like anything Ive ever seen. Sorry .

So from the little bit of info I have found on the machine and in combination from the manual it appears the boom should essentially lock in to place allowing you to put down pressure using the bucket. But currently it doesn't lock it just floats

Is that the Model from 1978? I looked it up and it looks pretty crude. There must be a way to operate it in a functional manner. I have a LS190 and it takes some practice to get onto it? Never could find the
float position and like a rodeo ride trying to keep under control with the feet. If I ever get a different one now I know that Operator Comfort is important in controls??I put my pickup tail gate in a shape of a U on the ground. Those old ones may be cheap for a reason??Cleddy

Hi, I also have a Sperry New Holland L325 and want to repower it with a predator engine. I've replaced engines in cars and motorcycles before but never a skid steer. If possible could you tell me which predator engine you used and did you have to purchase or make any adapters? Thank y'all very very much!

If the boom cylinders are single acting they will always float, look at the cylinder and see how many hydraulic lines are connected to it, one it's single acting and will have no down power, if it's got two it is double acting and should have down power.

Yea I used the biggest one they had. It was far more than just a simple swap. It needed the exhaust heavily modified to fit. And the throttle and choke needed modifications to use.
