Ford 555A steering cylinder repacking guidance

Hi all,

I'm moving along in the maintenance that I'm doing to this machine and I wanted to repack the steering cylinders today. The service manual says to depress the gland and insert a punch through the hole in the outside of the cylinder to remove the lock ring. There's no hole on the outside of the cylinder and I'm not sure what's meant by depress the gland. Can anyone offer any tips/guidance on this? I've included the instructions and diagram from the service manual I have for reference.

Undo the track rod end from the drop arm, clean around the top of the cylinder, lossen the two hydraulic lines, remove the three bolts that retains the plate to the gland, pull the plate out of the way, with a blunt punch knock the gland into the cylinder till it clears the retaining clip that is in the wall of the cylinder, hoke out the clip and now the rod can be pulled out, keep everything clean including the tools and your hands.
Good luck
AJ

Take 3 screws out, move up rod, push gland into cyl, wont go very far. Then find end of wire ring, push in with screwdriver, stick another behind ring, pry out, them pull rod , gland and piston out.
