Forward/Reverse Cat D8 22A

Have much difficulty changing from forward to reverse and vice versa when the motor is running in my Cat D8 22A. All works freely when the motor is stopped. The Interlock mechanism seems to work fine (tested with motor stopped) and the clutch brake seems to be stopping the drive shaft ok with the motor running. However, changing direction with the motor running involves "rocking" the machine slightly with the clutch until the interlock frees up. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

D8H 22A built in Scotland it must be getting on for sixty years old, great machine for scraper work back in the day,the last time I worked on one of them was in 1977 on the South Mimms/Hatfield A1M, if the brake is stopping the drive shaft going into the transmission then that is the same as if the engine was stopped, make sure the brake is stopping the drive, the clutch and the brake should be adjusted in such a way that when you disengage the clutch that the brake does not stop the machine, if the brake was too tight there would be stress going through the drive train causing it tight to shift,is it tight to shift the f/r lever out of a direction and into neutral, the cause could be that a bearing is badly worn and the gears are not lining up,I take it there is plenty oil in the transmission.
