JD350b. Carb problems??

So the ole 1980 JD 350b runs great until it starts to go up hill.

Something to do with the angle it doesnt like.

I have pulled the carb 3 times looking for something. Set the
float to specs, cleaned the carb, adjusted the air screw.

Nothing is helping.

Ignition is all news and was like that before I replaced everything

Any clues??

Thanks

I forgot the symptoms
Once the dozer starts going uphill, it start spitting and sputtering and backfiring, and eventually goes dead

Have you checked the tank for cleanliness? There may be a screen in the tank behind the fuel shutoff valve, some had them. Ia the fuel transfer pump working properly? You say you cleaned the carb. Does it have the screen attached to the inlet fitting and is it clean? Did you get a carb kit so it has new gaskets? Did you use torch tip cleaners or fine wires to clean out every passage in the carb? Are you using carb cleaner as well as blowing compressed air through things?

Any chance the choke is closing going uphill? I had something similar happening with my MH50. The pull for the choke moved extremely freely and when going uphill, the vibration would slowly move it to the choked position. It'd sputter and backfire like crazy. Drove me nuts until I realized it was essentially self choking.

The chick is pretty stable. Has a hard wire going to the dash.
But yea that is how it is acting, likes its fully choking down.

Thanks

You could try setting the float a bit lower, like 5/16" instead of 1/4", if you want to experiment.

You got me on that one. I've been to 2 county fairs and a heifer breeding and never seen anything like that. After nearly 50 years around this yellow stuff, can't say I've ever run across a gas 350. Maybe a collector piece? Lower the float or test it for rubbing the inside of the casting.

Lol. Yea its a collectors piece aight!! Lol
Just bought it, Ive done alot of work to it so far, still needs lot more work.
I adjusted the carb every way I could trying different settings with the float. Never found why it was. I ended up ordering a new carb from YT. Runs great now.

on it and been ok, but I also needed the fuel cut off and they are
obsolete.

FYI If it has a hydraulic direction reverser in it, keep a vigil on the oil level. They don't hold much and very easy to burn it up. Some parts are obsolete, which nobody wants to hear.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up. Seams like it will be a nice little dozer once I get it fixed up, its light and easy to trailer.
I have already found some parts that are obsolete Im not sure how long I will keep this old thing.
