Case 310G Maintenance

Hey guys, I have a 1966 Case 310G dozer with the gas engine. I ve had it about a year now and did my driveway with it this winter. Lots of blow by and she looks a little rough but runs good, I ll rebuild when the time comes.

Just wondering how much fluid the tranny/final drive takes. I know to use the 90w mineral oil but can t find how much. Also are the track drives filled via the tranny or do I have to fill them separately? Can t find any plugs aside from the ones on the bottom and I m afraid to touch them, one is already broke from the previous owner.

I ll try to upload photos later.

Transmission/differential takes 7 1/2 US quarts, 8 1/2 w/PTO. Drain plugs on both tranny & diff but level plug for both is the one on the side of the tranny which is also the fill pipe on mine. You just fill the tranny to the proper level & the diff will be correct. As you know, Straight Mineral Gear Oil (GL-1) is best in there. The two drain plugs need to be magnetic.

Final drives are separate even tho there may be some very slight mixing eventually thru the axle housings. You might get away with regular 80W90 gear oil in the finals as there's no brass in there. They each have both drain & level plugs and take 2 1/2 US pints each. All four of these plugs need to be magnetic.

An Operator's Manual, if you can find one, contains the above info as well as many specs and adjustments. A full shop manual is more costly but invaluable if you're keeping & maintaining the machine yourself. CaseCe still lists parts online so far. Choose your model, serial number & engine. I'll admit, a hard copy is nice to have.
