Leaky hoe

Have a 60s case backhoe that leaks around spool
valve for hoe - would heavy oil help for the short time I
use it ? If so how heavy 30w ?!

You should be able to replace the seals in the valve body that seal the spool.

What's the model of the machine and can you identify the make and series of the control valve?

Case 580 - can u replace seals without removing
valve and a million hoses ?

580 is the tractor, there should be another tag on the hoe giving the hoe model (and another on the loader for its model number). You may have to unhook hoses to get at the spool seals. Have you cleaned it good to see if it is leaking between the valve sections as well?

I don't see that heavier oil will make enough difference to matter. JMHO
